SESSION THREE IS UNDERWAY!

This group of campers is particularly spirited! On the first evening, we held a Jurassic Park evening program. All the Program Directors were dressed as dinosaurs, and campers had to move between them, finding out as much as they could about them. - such as their favourite song, favourite movie or dance move. Then, the [...]

It’s “Byng and Bands” Day! Session 2, 2014 at Centauri Arts Camp.

It's the middle of the summer now, and we have a little tradition at Centauri Arts Camp: for one day, half way through the season, regular activities are suspended. We take off to a water park for the afternoon, and conclude the day with a concert! Our special day began with a pyjama breakfast, and [...]

A Snapshot of Session Two Programs!

With Session Two now well underway, I took a tour of programs this morning! Our Dancers were choreographing a dance using multicoloured flashlight beams in darkness, which looked spectacular. The Zen of Comedy campers were analysing famous movie clips and discussing how they could use the various styles in their improv work. Mr Hollow's Theatre [...]

Today, WE DEFEATED SMAUG!!!

Today, WE DEFEATED SMAUG!!! It's true. The day began in the Odyssey Theatre, where a mystical shadow puppet show told the background story to The Hobbit... then all the dorms went out to create their respective kingdoms in Middle Earth. Dorms were each given different creatures - Elves, Hobbits, Giants, Dwarves, Skin Changers, Giant Animals, [...]

Non Stop Adventure here at Centauri Summer Arts Camp!

The past couple of days have been a whirlwind of excitement here at Centauri Arts Camp. Countermeasure - an award-winning acapella group - came down to Centauri to perform. One of the founding members, JM Erlendson, is a Centauri program director - and twenty years ago, that same person was the first camper ever to [...]

Centauri Skies…

For some utterly mysterious reason, Centauri gets the most spectacular sunsets I have ever seen anywhere, ever. And we get them almost every night. Campers call them 'Centauri Skies' and they have been featured in numerous songs, poems and inspirational speeches over the past twenty summers. In fact, at around 9pm every night, everything pauses. [...]

THE FIRST TWENTY FOUR HOURS AT CENTAURI ARTS CAMP 2014!

THE FIRST TWENTY FOUR HOURS! Programs are all going well. I took a tour around this morning. Our writers were creating pieces based around the concept of 'fear and awe'. In 'Aliens Invade', groups were learning the correct way to set up a professional tripod, and in the film studio next door, campers were learning [...]

WE HAVE OUR CAMPERS!

The first day of the summer was greatll! We have a 30 minute arrival period, but most families arrived within a 10 minute block. Our program staff worked exceptionally hard to clear the line, and everyone was very good-natured about it! Within minutes we were singing the camp song in the dining hall and officially [...]
