To provide quality arts training within a cooperative and nurturing summer camp atmosphere.
The arts may be a career for some, but for all of us they can enrich and deepen our lives. We aim to show young people the pleasures and the importance of the arts in society, as a means of reflecting our world in all its diversity, and exploring everything that world could be. Through the arts, as creative participants and reflective audiences, young people grow in confidence, learn the validity of their own ideas and explore both their originality and their place within the world. e e cummings said it best:
"We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us is something valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit."
What we are |
What we're not |
|
Nurturing, cooperative, ensemble based |
Goal oriented, stressful |
|
A solid training in the arts, which teaches young people to respect other artists, past and present, and to celebrate their own creativity |
A ‘Junior Broadway’ which uses glitzy sets and costumes to make young people feel like stars. |
|
‘A safe place to play’ with the temptations of a media-driven, urban world safely out of reach. Campers tell us they can be themselves at Centauri, not the person they have to be to survive teenage peer pressure and temptations in the outside world. |
A place for cliques, peer pressure and hierarchies. We have a zero tolerance policy for drugs, cigarettes and alcohol and a strong support system of mature and caring staff. |
|
Workshop based, with a focus on taking risks and self-discovery; campers participate in a short demonstration of skill at the end, not a full length presentation |
Goal oriented; just focused on creating a show. |
|
Focussed on the needs of each individual |
Focussed on the group as a whole, with the strongest leaders ruling the roost. |
|
Fun, relaxed, busy, friendly and exciting! |
Boring! |
