3-part leadership certification, ages 15-18
One component of the Leadership Program is offered in each session, campers who
complete all 3 components of the leadership program receive their Centauri LIT
Certification. Workshops take place in the afternoon elective period, so campers
still choose an arts major. Sessions are lively and informal and LITs also take
on leadership duties such as planning a campfire or themed meal. Participation
in the LIT program brings with it expectations that campers will be leaders
within the community, and in return LITs take part in special
activities such as
Night Walks. All LITs must complete ‘Inspiration Challenges’ and other
leadership tasks in order to receive certification. There is no additional
charge for campers wishing to take the leadership program, but participation is
by invitation only. All LITs receive a training manual and written evaluation.
New for 2010: only the Session 3 component - and the S.U.P.E.R program - will be
open to 15 year olds.
Are you a leader? A problem solver? A team player? What skills do you have that will help you get ahead? Find out more about yourself and maximise your potential! Learn how to lead big groups, design activities and turn ideas into successful events. As a final challenge, design an activity for ‘Litsarama’ night!
Attend classes in teaching technique, observe and assist a teacher, then end the session by creating and leading a workshop with guidance and support. As a final challenge, design and teach a workshop of your own for younger camps.
Learn how to design group activities suited to different ages, and role-play situations you may encounter as a counsellor. Discover what it takes to be an outstanding camp counsellor. As a final challenge, shadow a counsellor and run activities for a younger dorm.
In addition, the following University Preparation Program is available for campers aged 15-18:
Simple University Preparation for Entrance to the Real world!! What skills will you need when you go away to university and have to fend for yourself? Surprisingly, malnutrition is becoming a huge problem among university students. How do you cook healthy food, when money and time are limited? We will learn about nutrition and budgeting, stress management, and how to choose the university and program that is right for you. We will also discover how to be streetwise, taking a class in self defence. Need to learn how to do your own laundry, organise finances and manage your time? Then join us, and equip yourself for the soon-to-come leap to independence!
Since the new component of LIT in session 4 has little to do with camp leadership, campers may achieve Alitni status even if this component is not taken.
