The
Centauri Festival of Word and Image On Sunday 13 November we held a Festival of Word and Image to raise money for our school in India - and the event was a great success! We showed movies created by campers at Centauri, enjoyed readings by Centauri campers and staff, and viewed a presentation on the building of our school by Lisa Farano, President of Elephant Thoughts. By the end of our event, we had raised a grand total of $3045 to purchase school supplies for the Centauri Rosebud Academy in Mirik, India. Around 150 people supported us in this event, and dozens more (who lived too far away to join us) sent in donations for our school. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. Because of your efforts, hundreds of young people will be able to finish their education in a safe and inspiring environment. You should be proud!
About The
Centauri Rosebud Academy, India !
In Spring 2009 the Centauri camp
community gathered at a theatre in Toronto for a Fifteen Hour
Performance Marathon to raise money to build a school in India. Our
target community had no free education options for Grade 6 upwards,
meaning that children from poorer families could not finish their
education - we wanted to change all that. Our Performance Marathon
was hugely successful - and work began on our school a few months
later.
Our partner-charity is Elephant Thoughts, based in
Collingwood, and thanks to their efforts the school is now almost
complete. We are already educating young people in a borrowed room
at a local school, and very soon our students will be able to move
into their brand new home! You can read more about the school build
