Centauri Summer Arts Camp - Charities and Projects
At Centauri, we believe all of us have a responsibility to see
ourselves as global citizens, interconnected with others and with
our planet. While the main focus of our camp is on the arts and
having fun (!!), we also aim to empower young people to have a voice
in the world. Each session, we offer an evening program or spirit
supper with an environmental or social justice focus, encouraging
debate about issues, and examining concrete ways we can all make our
world a better place.
Here are some of the causes Centauri regularly supports:
The Centauri Rosebud
Academy, Mirik, India

On Sunday 13 November we held a Festival of Word and Image to raise money for our school in India - and the event was a great success! We showed movies created by campers at Centauri, enjoyed readings by Centauri campers and staff, and viewed a presentation on the building of our school by Lisa Farano, President of Elephant Thoughts. By the end of our event, we had raised a grand total of $3045 to purchase school supplies for the Centauri Rosebud Academy in Mirik, India. Around 150 people supported us in this event, and dozens more (who lived too far away to join us) sent in donations for our school. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. Because of your efforts, hundreds of young people will be able to finish their education in a safe and inspiring environment. You should be proud!

Plan Canada
For the past few years, Centauri has been the annual sponsor of a little girl who lives in Bolivia. We display her photograph in the camp office each summer.
Medicins Sans Frontieres
This organisation assists the world's poorest in their times of desperate need - famines, war, environmental disasters and more. We support MSF in our camp charity faceoff each year.
My Ubique
This charitable organization provides clean
drinking water & sanitation in Ghana, West Africa. It is run by David Stuttard, who recently was awarded the MBE by the Queen for his work!

Kiva - Microloans for the developing world.
Centauri has now given more than 40 different microloans to people
in the developing world.

Windshare
Centauri has purchased shares in the wind turbine at Exhibition Place in Toronto, on behalf of all our campers. http://www.windshare.ca/explace/the_wind_turbine.html
Other charities we have supported include SOS Children's Villages, World Wildlife Fund, The Snow Leopard Trust and the Cambodian Landmine Relief Fund.
