| Centauri Summer Arts Camp - Alumni News March 2009 | |
A huge 'hello' to all our Camper and Staff Alumni... from
Everyone at Centauri Arts Camp! ![]() If you're getting this newsletter, it's because Centauri Summer Arts Camp was once a part of your life! We haven't sent out an Alumni newsletter before, but we figure, from the number of heart-felt emails we get from you all, that you might like to know a little about what we're up to these days. Our New Theatre is Ready to Go! New theatre, you're thinking? What new theatre? Some of you will recall
sitting in the beautiful old Orion Theatre, watching performances while
the
raccoons poked their little paws through the ceiling. More recent alumni
will remember, instead, the Cat's Eye basement studio, with its
welcoming air conditioning (yes! Air conditioning!). Well, both these
spaces are now part of our history, and the new Orion Theatre - attached
to the gym, in fact - is ready to be born! The RLA use the room as a
multi-purpose space, but with lights, sound, black curtains and dance
flooring, a 'spiffing' new theatre will be born. Come visit on our open
days this summer, and see the space for yourselves! |

Introducing our Fifteenth Anniversary Performance Marathon! ![]() This summer, believe it or not, Centauri turns FIFTEEN. Yes, it's true - our campers have morphed into counsellors, and those in turn have transformed into Program Directors! We'll be celebrating this important landmark in a unique way... by raising money to build a school in Nepal. Yes, you heard correctly! On Sunday 24th May at the Lower Ossington Theatre in Toronto, 25 Centauri Staff (and Staff Alumni) will attempt to work continuously on projects of a creative nature for a total of FIFTEEN HOURS, to raise money through sponsorship. There will be poetry written, art created, music and theatre performed... and a whole host of other bizarre happenings! Audience members are welcome to view the works-in-progress from 11-30am to 1pm, 3.30-5pm, 7.30-9pm and 11 til midnight. You can find out more about this exciting event at http://www.centauri.on.ca/marathon, where you will also see the Team Members listed, and get a laugh at some pretty goofy photos of them all! Chances are, you'll recognise many of their faces from your own days at Centauri... your counsellor, program director, or even a friend from your dorm! Please consider sponsoring one of our Team Members. Not only will the money go to a terrific cause, but you'll give them great reason to smile, when they recognise a name from the past! We're also looking for media coverage, silent auction donations and audience members to support us - please get involved! Hopefully, by midnight on 24th May, together we will have raised enough money to build a school in an impoverished village. I can't think of a better statement of Centauri's famous community spirit. Summer 2009: Please Help us Spread the Word!
Do you have a cousin, brother, neighbour, student or even son/daughter (!!) who would benefit from a summer at Centauri? Then please help us (and them) by getting the word out! You can point potential new camp families to our website at: http://www.centauri.on.ca; we currently have space left for boys and girls in most programs in all four sessions. Alternately, send us an email, and we can either forward brochures to you, or contact families directly. We believe that by bringing together boys and girls who love the arts, we offer them all a unique opportunity to be themselves and to discover their talents, in an exciting and nurturing community. Remember the Secret
Ceremonies? Bohemian Raphsody in the Dining Hall?
The mad dash for Tuck
Shop at the end of Flagpole?
Stargazing with your dorm, throwing on bizarre costumes for Banquets,
sobbing with your friends when the session ended?
Well, we haven't changed! Please tell everyone about us, and make it
possible for children you know to experience the magic of camp.Click here to see photos of the 1st 10 years of camp! |
We're Podcasting!
Those of you who have attended Centauri in past years will remember sprawling on the jigsaw mats last thing at night, to listen to Julie's Celtic and Chinese stories, while gentle music plays in the background and everyone relaxes together. Well now, you can listen to those stories at home! We've already uploaded a few, and we'll be adding to the list over the next few weeks. For all podcasts click herel |
