| Centauri Summer Arts Camp - March 2009 | |
|
With March Break
now upon us, summer seems closer than ever, and we're busy in the camp office
processing the registrations of brand new campers attending for the first
time! Here's some important information about summer 2009:
An Update on Programs! "Rock, Jazz, Blues & More" has proven hugely popular this year (it's now full) . However, if you're a Musician, you can still take our Session 3 Music Program. We've made some changes to the title and description, to try to reflect the music content better: Musician' Mayhem: Write, Play, Busk & More! Project X is now for Writers, too! Many campers have asked us why we removed the Writing component from Project X - so the program focusses just on directing and acting. We did this because we thought we mght have too many writing -programs this summer. Clearly, we were wrong! We have spoken with the program's director for the coming summer (Robyn Levine) and she has agreed to add writing opportunities for anyone interested in them. So, if you'd like to take Project X, but were put off by the fact that there wasn't a chance to write, this is your lucky day! Campers registering for this program can now act, direct AND write! Some Programs/Sessions now Filling Fast! Only 4 spaces now remain in the boys' dorms for session two. If you're male, and you're still hoping to attend in session two, you need to call us soon! In addition, we have a number of popular programs that now have very limited availability. These include Art & Design (3 spots left) Dance Remix (2 spots left), Film in Session 3 (3 spots left),and Musical Theatre Triple Threat (3 spots left). At Centauri, campers take one specialist arts program per session, and still have the chance to try arts electives every afternoon. We still have space in many of our specialist programs. Here's a selection of what's still available for this summer. For a complete list of programs you can go to www.centauri.on.ca Surrealism and Absurdism: Let's Act the 'IZZUMS!' (taught by Mladen Obradowicz) This is a omega program for experienced actors, focussing on absurdism and surrealism. Surrealism and absurdism are crazy, wacky, exciting theatre styles that demand special skills from a performer. Join us in Session One, bring all your creative, off-the-wall ideas and show us just how surreal you can be! Creative Writing: Get Your Work OUT There! If you are 9-14, and enjoy writing - check this out! Experiment with all kinds of writing - poetry, prose, character-creation, and much more. Then... discover some creative and exciting ways to share your work with others! This is a general creative writing program in session 1 for campers who want to give it a go... so join us under the Poet-Tree this summer! Animation for Artists If you love anime, creating cartoons, making graphic stories, reading comics or stop motion animation, you'll LOVE this program.! Aaron Alviano is teaching this alpha program in session 3... join his team of artists and bring your cartoon creations to life. This may be one of your last chances EVER to experience the art of traditional photography! It's getting harder to buy the films and chemicals... and darkrooms are closing everywhere. But there really is nothing like the 'hands on' version of photography - watching a photograph come to life in front of your eyes. Darkrooms are a bit like the labs of mythical sorcerers! Come try photography the traditional way... while you still can! |

We're Podcasting!
Those of you who have attended Centauri in past years will remember sprawling on the jigsaw mats last thing at night, to listen to Julie's Celtic and Chinese stories, while gentle music plays in the background and everyone relaxes together. Well now, you can listen to those stories at home! We've already uploaded a few, and we'll be adding to the list over the next few weeks. For all podcasts click herel |

The Centauri Performance
Marathon In May, our staff will be taking on the Ultimate Artistic Challenge - to spend FIFTEEN consecutive hours engaged in creative activities, to raise money to build a school in Nepal! This unique event will take place at a theatre in downtown Toronto, and is to celebrate Centauri's FIFTEENTH summer in existence. Campers and parents will be able to come along and see many of the creative projects on stage and on display... everything from novellas to murals, original music to storytelling, live theatre to dance, sculpture to hands-on crafts. Most of the staff at Centauri are either arts professionals, or arts students. This will be a great opportunity for our parents and campers to see what the Centauri staff do in the "real world" - as well as to support a community in the developing world that is in desperate need of a school. More information will follow soon! |
