International Tour to England:
Calling all Writers and Artists! Journey with us through the
wind-swept moors of Northern England in search of literary ghosts...hunt
for Vikings in the city of York... follow the trail of Dracula in the
lovely fishing town of Whitby, and discover the legacy of 18th century
smugglers in one of Britain’s most haunted villages! Finally, ‘hole up’
with us in our cliff-top cottage in Robin Hood’s Bay for a 5-day writing
and art retreat, as we let our the creative juices fly!

Welcome to our 14th International Arts Tour - a unique, educational
adventure for creative youth aged 13-18! What makes our tours unique?
Well, we travel as a small group, carrying the Centauri spirit with us!
Our tours emphasise the arts, with exciting sightseeing opportunities,
and hands-on activities... in the case of this trip, writing workshops
with a well known local writer, and the option of site-specific art
projects. We use the arts to enrich each camper’s experience - for
example, sharing projects with youth groups, and telling stories based
on local history. Tours are imbued with our passion for our homeland -
it’s history, culture and people - and this means we often see sights
the average tourist would miss. Our tours also encourage independence.
We demonstrate to young people how to travel safely, and campers prepare
meals together at the writing retreat.
The 2010 International Arts Tour offers young writers and artists a
wealth of inspiration. We begin on the Yorkshire Moors, in the lovely
village of Haworth, home of the Brontes. Then we move to York, exploring
its Viking and Roman legacy. Finally, we journey to Robin Hood’s Bay, to
a centre hired exclusively for our use, where a local writer will offer
daily workshops for the remainder of the tour. There will be time to
work on your own writing or art projects, inspired by our spectacular
cliff-top location. No previous writing or art experience is necessary -
but campers must have an interest in writing, since this is a big part
of the trip!
A FEW SPACES STILL REMAIN FOR 2010!

2009 Tour, Scotland:
Sold Out !
Scotland... a land of contrasts. Bustling cities rich in culture, and empty moors engulfed in mist. Violent battlefields where fierce warriors clashed, and serene Lochs with clear waters that reflect the sky. Modern museums and ancient castles. The harshness of a sunset over moorland and the wild beauty of ancient mountains ringed in cloud. This is the Scotland we go in search of in Summer 2009!br /> Centauri has a history of international arts tours, having offered more than a dozen of them to Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England since 1995. But our tours are much more than a chance to see famous sights. We use our personal experience of the UK to introduce our campers to things the average tourist might miss. Tours are imbued with our passion for our homeland... its history, culture, people and stories. Centauri on tour has the same sense of community as Centauri at camp... we travel as a small group, supporting one another, and sharing in an experience with our friends. Furthermore, our tours are a leadership experience. While we are always on hand to offer guidance, young people take on a new level of independence and responsibility when they travel abroad without their families. At Moniack Mhor writer’s retreat, we share responsibility for cooking, and daily maintenance of our living space. Our young adults can expect to return with practical skills that will benefit them as they move towards greater independence.
In 2009, our tour will have two unique, cultural dimensions. First, we will visit the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a ‘must’ for any camper with a love of live theatre. Then, we move up to an internationally-recognised writing retreat in the highlands of Scotland, where we will take classes in playwriting and other writing genres, in the company of two of Scotland’s well loved writers. All campers aged 13-18 are welcome to join us, and no previous writing or theatre experience is necessary. It’s a hugely valuable creative and academic experience - something that few teens in North America will have the chance to experience. Inspired by the scenery, away from the pressures of modern life, and in the company of successful writers, you can expect your own creativity to take flight. One of our resident writers will be either a playwright or a screenwriter, ensuring this experience is valuable not only to our young writers, but to theatre campers, too. Add to this our three days at the Edinburgh Theatre Festival, and you have an arts experience unlike any other. Campers will see the sights of Scotland and share an adventure... but they will also learn more about theatre, writing, literature and culture in general, returning to North America with a valuable new experience to add to their resumes.
