Centauri Summer Arts Camp employs qualified and experienced arts professionals to
lead each specialist program, and university arts students to undertake camp
counsellor duties and assist in the arts departments.
Centauri offers a superb working environment for all staff, with a chance to
live in an exciting arts community and make a real difference to the lives
of talented young people.
Applicants for all staff positions must :
1) Have experience in one or more arts disciplines.
2) Have experience teaching or working with young people.
3) Be responsible, caring, nurturing individuals eager to help make this
summer a landmark in each camper's life
4) Be age 19 or older.
5) Be willing to abide by a firm no alcohol, no drug, no smoking policy for
the duration of the summer.
6) Be willing to undergo a Police Records Check and attend an interview in
Toronto.
7) Be legally able to work in Canada (If you are not Canadian you must hold
a work visa or be able to secure one in time for the summer).
At this time of year, we receive numerous emails
from senior campers hoping to return as Assistant Counsellors. If
you are 18 by next summer and would like to work at camp, read on...
Firstly, you need to recognise that being on staff at Centauri is a serious
responsibility; one that involves putting the needs of campers before your
own, and making decisions that affect the welfare and happiness of others.
If you just want to be back at camp, and you're too old to return as a
camper, this isn't a good enough reason to apply! Being a camp counsellor is
extremely rewarding and exciting... it's also one of the most all-consuming
and personally demanding jobs you may ever do! Here's what we look for in
all our assistants... you must:
...have previous work experience, preferably something which involves young
people (such as community work or babysitting)
...either have completed our LIT program, or be able to demonstrate
equivalent leadership experience elsewhere
...have a passion for the arts!
...be available for the entire summer season (25 June to 25 August 2010)
...be willing to prepare all your unit hours, workshops and activities
before camp begins
...be able to put the needs of others before your own, and take care of
younger people responsibly
...be fun-loving, nurturing, caring, warm, energetic and inspiring!
...be able to abide by all Centauri's expectations, which are the same for
staff as for campers (no smoking, drinking or drug use tolerated)
American campers are welcome to apply; the visa process is simple. Other
international campers must be willing to complete more complex visa
processes, which involve a medical, and sometimes an embassy interview.
So How do you Apply?
Send a cover letter and resume to us, via
email, by the end of September. Your cover letter should be personalised,
detailing your reasons for applying. You should include the names and
telephone numbers of 3 references (teachers, employees etc). One of these
references should be a Centauri staff member who knows you well. During
October, all interviews will be held, and decisions made by the end of
October. If we already know you well, and you live too far away to attend an
interview in Toronto, an interview by Skype can be arranged. If you have
any further questions before you apply, please email us.
Centauri also seeks outstanding graduate nurses or qualified RNs to join its
team each summer. Click here for details
