Starting February 3rd, we’re offering our first ever program at the Toronto Centauri Arts Academy for younger children…

The Make-Believers!     (Grades 2-5)

A celebration of reading, writing, storytelling and imagination! For children who love reading, as well as reluctant readers, and French Immersion students just learning to enjoy chapter books in English. In this exciting after-school program we will read several chapter books together, then use our imaginations to lift the plots and characters off the page, bringing them to life in the Studio!

Our instructors will begin each session by reading to the group, while they enjoy a snack together. The group’s chapter book will then be the springboard for an hour of creative exploration. We’ll turn the books we read into comic strips and theatre, make puppet shows, create and perform our own dialogue for the characters, write and film claymation movies, tell stories, create photo montages and devise our own sequels to the novels we read. Each week will include reading, active games, arts activities and writing challenges… all to stimulate your child’s imagination and cultivate a love of books. We’ll play drama games, experiment with words and learn to be storytellers. Most of all, we’ll have fun reading, writing, being creative and discovering everything a story can be! In this fifteen week program, the group will read and celebrate six chapter books together. The cost of all six books is included in the course fees. Your child will have their own copy of each book to use during sessions, and to bring home afterwards to keep and re-read.
