One of the things we’ve done  over the years is try to find as many ways – formal and informal – at camp, for young people to explore and celebrate their creative selves. A few years ago we introduced a tradition we call the Artsaramas. Once or twice a session, campers have the opportunity to approach their program directors, and ask for guidance and supervision in an unstructured way, for any personal arts projects they have in mind. Perhaps they have an idea for a novel, or they want to collaborate on a performance piece for the talent show… they can propose anything creative, and get help from arts professionals resident here at camp.

Last night was Artsarama Night for Session Three! About 20 campers chose to opt out of evening program and work on creative projects instead. In addition, six keen filmmakers worked for two hours on a ‘film styles’ project that involved some clever use of smoke machines and red light. The rest of camp? Well, last night’s evening program was HUMANS VERSUS ZOMBIES!!! Regardless of choice, a fun time was had by all.
