The past few days at camp have reminded me about the very special environment every member of Centauri Arts Camp takes part in. The combination of arts and community has resulted in special experiences that occur no where else in the world.

On Thursday morning campers chose a workshop that they would focus on for three afternoons. For many it was an opportunity to work with a different Program Director than the one who runs their daily program. Saturday afternoon the entire camp gathered in the Odyssey Theatre for the performances that resulted from these mini-sessions. There was a collaboration between dance and clown, a mini-musical singing about camp activities, a stage combat performance using found objects, and several more impressive workshop presentations. One camper in the painting workshop created a picture of a pizza so realistic that her counselor and dorm mates could not stop staring hungrily at it!

Recently there was another evening that showcased the talents of our campers, and that was the Camp-wide Talent Show! Singing, dancing, performance art, music, comedy, rapping… I sat watching in awe as campers shared their various talents. It is so inspirational to watch young artists share with their community and be supported in return.

Then there is the one night during the summer when campers take time to recognize all the hard work a certain team of staff members put into camp, and that is Counselor Appreciation Evening. The counselor team was sent off while campers created presentations and cards. I saw several counselors moved to tears and laughter as their campers performed in front of them. Our camp counselors are friends, mentors, listeners, teachers, artists, role models and so much more. They are a special group of individuals who have devoted time and energy into making Centauri magical.

As I finish typing this campers are enjoying some free time before lunch. They are resting up before the beginning of our Doctor Who Festival Day… I can’t wait to share with you all the adventures that are sure to occur on this exciting day!
