THE FIRST TWENTY FOUR HOURS!

Programs are all going well. I took a tour around this morning. Our writers were creating pieces based around the concept of ‘fear and awe’. In ‘Aliens Invade‘, groups were learning the correct way to set up a professional tripod, and in the film studio next door, campers were learning how to create different lighting effects. Our ‘Acting and Stage Combat‘ campersMusic Camp at Centauri Arts Camp were beginning ( or reviewing) the basics of combat by practising the safe way to fall. Musical Theatre was allocating singing parts for their musical, and ‘Music Mayhem‘ was reassembling their various music groups to play for one another. Dance seemed to be choreographing something interesting with umbrellas and canes, while ‘Performance Extravaganza‘ was in the middle of a character workshop, and ‘How to be an Actor in the Real World’ was allocating scene studies. The artists were deeply and intensely at work on paintings.

Last night we had a fantastic evening program based on ‘Settler of Catan’ and entitled, “Shipwrecked!”. Campers had to earn various resources, and compete to create rival cities by building roads, houses and so on. There was a lot of running against the clock, and plenty of wildly creative sculptures. Aaron (our program director for Art) was dressed as a lumberjack, setting physical challenges in return for wood resource cards, while two other program directors played sassy bankers (who frustrated the winning teams by taking random lunch breaks) and two ‘robbers’ sneaked up on cities to ‘steal’ their houses. A huge amount of fun was had by all.

Tonight is Canada Day! Campers will be creating (and re-creating) famous Canadians from throughout history, using their counsellors as raw material! The evening is going to end with performances in the theatre… and a special Canada Day cake which the whole camp will share.

Happy Birthday, Canada!
